ENTERTAINMENT: NEW FAVORITE SHOWS

Life has been crazy busy lately and as a result, our DVR is full of multiple episodes of our favorite shows we haven't had time to watch yet. I realize this is a first world problem, but like too many trivial things in life, it stresses me out. Maybe it's because it indicates a lack of balance between work and relaxation in our lives, or maybe it's because I'm afraid popular plots will be ruined for me! Perhaps it's a little bit of both. Because I'm longing for the opportunity to be a major couch potato and play catch up with our DVR, I thought I'd post about some of my favorite new shows this season, as well as my thoughts on new seasons of old favorites. So go grab some popcorn and we'll dive in to a discussion of all things TV!

NEW FAVORITES

1. Nashville - I realize this show actually started in the fall, but I am absolutely obsessed! I'm always scared about starting new shows because I never think I'll love them as much as my old favorites that have ended (Gossip Girl!), but I always end up surprising myself. I really love how original songs are incorporated and I especially love how you're constantly learning so much about each character because the plot always seems to thicken. I'm also totally obsessed with Hayden Panettiere's character. If you're not watching, you can purchase the first 5 episodes on DVD at Target (on sale for $9 this week!) and jump in. And no, Target does not pay me to advertise for them. I should be so lucky.

2. The Carrie Diaries - This show took the place of my beloved Gossip Girl and I was of course, hesitant. Especially because I have never gotten into Sex and the City. Both the show and the movies. I've only seen the first episode so far, but I have a major crush on this show. The writing is amazing and despite not knowing much about any of the characters on Sex and the City, I'm totally into it and on board. I'm not a big fan of 80's fashion in general, but I'm actually liking quite a few of the pieces from the first episode. It's crazy how much current fashion is influenced by the 80's. Neon anyone? Even the cars on the show are time period specific and I love that. So far it's a bit too girly for Jeff, but he's a gem and I know he'll keep watching with me because we watch most of our shows together. That is except for Duck Dynasty (his show) and Tia & Tamera (my show).

NEW SEASONS OF OLD FAVORITES

1. The Bachelor - This one is obvious, I know. And this is the only one I forcefully make time to keep up with when schedules get crazy. But I'm loving this season. I think it helps that we have a decent and genuine bachelor who I think is legitimately that way this time. Unlike seasons in the past (cough, cough, Jake Pavelka). I still haven't narrowed down a favorite yet, but I'm liking a few of the girls so far. That is except for Tierra. She reminds me of a best friend I had in middle school who ended up betraying me. She even looks like her and it drives me nuts! Let's see how long it takes him to get rid of her. P.S. I'm extra excited we get TWO episodes on 2 different nights next week!

2. American Idol - I've known it for a while now, but I think this show is finally going downhill. I thought it would end when Simon left, but much to my surprise, it didn't. Then they enlisted JLo. And I loved it. I loved seeing how she was styled every week and I thought she was a decent judge. But this season? I just don't even know. I've only watched half of the first episode and just as I predicted, I can't stand Nicki Minaj. Even Mariah is driving me nuts because she comes across as arrogant. I know I need to catch up on episodes and perhaps, give Nicki a fighting chance, but I'm afraid for this season. Very, very afraid. Thank heaven for X Factor.

I can't not comment on this because tv is a huge part of my life and raises my kids so I'm very passionate about a good tv show. (Joking about it raising my kids. DVR Disney movies do that). First off HOW DARE YOU. I watched part of the Carrie diaries and being a die hard, DIE HARD sex and the city fan (it's my fav show of all time I would give it up for the bachelor or any realhousewives in a second). I don't like who they chose for Carrie and it makes me so mad I can't even bare to watch it! And Tia and Tamara Ashley? I mean really? that show basically bores me to tears. I love that we can be friends and have such dramatic taste in things! I don't know where I'm going with this comment at all. I basically just wanted to share my hate of the Carrie diaries is all.
