NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS

I'm not a huge fan of new year's resolutions. At least not for myself. I've found that often times, they only end up in disappointment when not fulfilled because they're typically large goals that involve major changes. Instead, I prefer to set smaller goals throughout the year. And as a perfectionist, this has always suited me best. But this year, I decided to switch things up a bit.

The month of December was a stressful one for me. I think the holidays tend to put additional pressure on everyone, not only in the form of overly packed schedules and managing finances when it comes to gift giving, but also in the form of evaluating your own life. We all have that idea of a picture perfect holiday setting and when our lives don't quite measure up to that picture we have in our heads of how we think our lives should be, in all aspects of it, it's depressing. I did a lot of reflecting during the holidays and one thing that became very clear to me is that my life as of late, has been very unbalanced in so many aspects. And that's something that I know, needs to change.

So this year I've decided to actually make a new year's resolution. It's not one that involves a detailed plan or one whose outcome can be quantified in simple terms, but rather one that includes a sort of over arching theme for how I want my life to look.

My new year's resolution can be summed up on one simple word: balance.

I want to live a more balanced life. More balance between work and play. More balance in terms of diet and exercise. More balance with my schedule. And more balance in all the things I can't think of at the moment, but I know need to be more balanced. I really feel like with more balance in various areas of my life, it's going to eliminate a lot of unnecessary stress and help me to live a more healthy existence both mentally and physically. I don't have a long list of specific steps I'm going to take, so I'm going to make a lot of it up as I go. And when things need to be modified, I'm going to go with the flow. Because it's all about balance, right? And I officially feel so weird saying the word "balance" now because I've typed it way too many times. I think you get the idea.
